Apna Ghar Housing Finance Opened to Non-Bank Lenders

The federal government has allowed non-bank financial companies (NBFCs) to lend under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar housing finance programme, which was previously offered only through banks. The SECP proposed the change and issued a framework for NBFC participation.

Non-bank housing finance and investment finance companies can now offer loans of up to Rs. 10 million, and microfinance companies up to Rs. 5 million, either on their own or together with banks. Borrowers get a subsidised 5 percent markup for the first 10 years.

The aim is to widen access to home finance, especially in remote and underserved areas where many NBFCs already operate.

What this means for you: More lenders should mean more choice and wider reach for first-time buyers looking at subsidised home finance.
