ISLAMABAD: With foreign reserves depleted to just over $3 billion, enough for only one month’s imports, the financially beleaguered Nawaz government has stepped up efforts to jack up the reserves position to a reasonable level.
Karachi: Overseas Pakistani workers remitted an amount of $6406.73 million in the first five months (July – November) of the current fiscal year 2013-14 (FY14), showing a growth of 7.10 percent when compared with $5982.04 million received during the same period of last fiscal year (July- November FY13).

ISLAMABAD: In the strongest signal in months, Pakistan announced on Tuesday it had agreed with Iran to speed up implementation of the much-delayed gas pipeline project designed to link Iran’s giant South Pars gas field with consumers in South Asia.
The United States opposes the $7.5-billion project because it could violate sanctions imposed on Iran over nuclear activities Washington suspects are aimed at developing an atom bomb, although Tehran denies this.

The model for the proposed bus service for Islamabad has been finalised by the CDA member administration and member planning.

Act after passage by the two Houses of the Parliament and signatures of the president, the local governments shall consist of union councils and metropolitan corporation.The bill introduced by the Federal Minister Zahid Hamid was referred to the concerned standing committee of the House.
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday restrained the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) from selling the seized properties of former chief of army staff Gen (r) Ziauddin Butt and directed it to submit a reply to his petition by January 27.
Gen (r) Butt was appointed army chief by then president Rafiq Tarar in October 1999 in place of Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf, but he was removed when Gen (r) Musharraf seized power in a coup.
